“The cross is still rugged!”

“The cross is still rugged!” Does anyone remember that old hymn “On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross...”? I thought about that old song today as we celebrate Good Friday.

Now I’ve seen some pretty crosses in my time. Some gold, silver, and some with jewels. Yes I’ve seen them hanging around necks, ankles, in ears and even in noses!

However, today I’m reminded that the cross is still rugged. While as Christians we do have many good days, we are not exempt from our share of bad days. In fact we’ve all been assigned a cross to bare, and it an’t cute. Thankfully we know that our salvation doesn’t end on Good Friday! Yes, Resurrection Sunday is coming! “So I’ll cling to the old rugged cross. I’ll exchange it some day for a crown!”“

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me.” St. Matthew 16:24 A blessed Resurrection Sunday to you all!
