“Vote for me, and I’ll set you free!”

“Vote for me, and I’ll set you free!” When I was a little boy my father saved a man who had fallen onto the subway train tracks. So for many years, whenever I would have a bad dream, I would find myself in the subway. It took a long time for me to have the courage to walk in front of the pillars on the platform because of fear that someone would push me onto the train tracks. This all came back to me as I watched the eight Democratic contenders who want to be Mayor of this great city. Many people are overwhelmed by the pushings and the stabbings and the shootings and the defunding.

I left the debate thinking I had just come out of a kindergarten class before nap time! Now I’ll vote for one of the candidates, but I know full well whoever becomes the Mayor won’t “set me free.” This city is too messed up! Thankfully you and I know who can really fix it!

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” St. John 8:36. I guess I’m as free as I’ll ever be. Keep praying Saints!
