“When hand washing is not enough.”

“When hand washing is not enough.” Once again I rode past one of our neighborhood churches, and saw their sign. “You should clean your hands, but only God can cleanse your soul.”

When this storm is over I hope to meet the minister of that church! Many are going to be surprised when they find out that “hand washing was not enough!” Do you remember Pontus Pilate? He tried to hand wash his problem away, but it didn’t work. He knew that Jesus was a King, and that His kingdom was not of this world. He knew that the Jews had brought Jesus to court because of envy! Yes, and even his wife told him that Jesus was a “Just (Righteous) man!” How did he respond?

“When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.” St. Matthew 27:24. Innocent? I don’t think so!

One of my teachers said years ago, that Pilate is in hell now still trying to wash his hands! It may be your responsibility to clean your hands, but aren’t you glad that Jesus cleansed your soul? I know that I am! Keep praying church!
